The 2015 inbound visitor survey conducted by China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) shows inbound visitors stayed in China for eight days, spending USD 237.75 per capita per day. The survey also indicates that foreign visitors had the longest average duration of stay, at 9.1 days, spending USD 258.72 per capita per day; whereas visitors from Hong Kong stayed 3.8 days on average and spent USD 169.06 per person, Macao visitors stayed five days and spent USD 136.31 on average, and Taiwan visitors stayed 8.3 days and spent USD 235.75 per person on average.

In accordance with the guidelines for China Tourism Statistics Survey, the CNTA survey only randomly sampled inbound visitors (including foreign visitors, visitors from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) who stayed in mainland China for less than three months, while visitors staying for between three months to a year were excluded from the survey. From 2015, however, the inbound visitor survey results have been supplemented with the data from CNTA data center’s random surveys of long-staying visitors, adjusted by a scoring system developed by experts.
