Shenzhen-based global mobile Wi-Fi roaming provider Skyroam has announced it concluded a B Series financing round that raised around RMB150 million (approx: US$24 million) from lead investors Lenovo Ventures and Yingchuan Zhixin and others that include CBC Capital, GSR Ventures and Vickers Capital.

Established in Silicon Valley, USA in 2009, Skyroam is a global wireless internet service provider that has a research and development facility in Shenzhen and an office in Beijing. Its proprietary virtual SIM card (VSIM) technology enables internet service overseas.

With the new financing round, Skyroam will further expand the global coverage of its mobile roaming service, introduce more discounted overseas internet service packages and more VSIM smart terminals.

Skyroam’s CEO Jing Liu said: “We already have coverage in 64 countries and a strong pricing advantage and are now seriously exploring revolutionary models to enable free overseas internet usage. We are partnering with Wechat to make it possible to for users to use Wechat anytime and anywhere in the world for free and we will partner with more apps in the future to make our roaming service a new portal for mobile internet. Skyroam will leverage acquired user big data and precise matching to create an all-new smart platform.“

Lenovo’s senior vice president said: “We are making a strategic investment in Skyroam because we foresee the roaming and overseas Wi-Fi market segment taking a leading role in the technology market.
