Holiday Inn Express has unveiled a “next-generation” guest experience for the brand in Europe that includes a guestroom redesign, a new F&B concept and the latest smart technology.

Guestrooms are fitted with smart TVs that enable guests to stream their own media from a personal device or log in to apps such as Netflix using the hotel’s Wi-Fi, which is included in the room price. Rooms also feature a flexible work/rest corner where the traditional desk has been removed and replaced with a comfortable chair and portable table with multiple USB ports. A larger bed with a padded, noise-reducing headboard is dressed with four pillows, two soft and two firm.

The Express Café & Bar is a new integrated lobby and food and beverage experience featuring a modern, continental-style café/bar offering the brand’s Express Start breakfast as well as all-day grab-and-go options.

Mobile check-in is another enhancement, with IHG Rewards Club members able to check in through the IHG App or online prior to arrival. When they arrive at the hotel, guests are shown their room location via tablet screens and offered a choice of room when possible.

Holiday Inn Express worked with consultancy Ideo as well as design agency Forpeople on the redesign, which incorporated hands-on guest feedback as well as visits with guests in their homes. The concept will be launched in Europe and adapted for new-build hotels and properties undergoing renovation. “We are aiming for at least one in every four of our European hotels to feature the latest Holiday Inn Express ‘next-generation’ guest experience within the next three years, with the first hotel opening towards the end of this year,” said Mike Greenup, vice president, brand management, Holiday Inn brand family, Europe, IHG.
