The openings are in line with Starwood’s aim to reach 400 operating hotels by 2016. “Starwood is one of the fastest growing hospitality players in Asia-Pacific, we are not only expanding our portfolio in the region, we are also strengthening as well as broadening our offerings in key MICE destinations. This means that event planners are assured of a Starwood property and meeting space that will suit their needs wherever they hold their event,” said Alison Taylor, senior vice-president, Sales – Asia Pacific, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. The new entry will include Starwood’s first hotel in Sri Lanka – the 360-room Sheraton Colombo Hotel, which is scheduled for opening in September this year. W brand will also make its debut in Mainland China with the opening of W Guangzhou next month. The hotel will feature more than 1,000 square metres of event space and studios. Closer to home, The Westin Singapore will re-open in November featuring six event venues including two ballrooms measuring a total of 1,170 square metres. The Westin Singapore will be located at Asia Square, near the Marina Bay Financial Centre. The Aloft brand will also be opening its largest yet – the Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral, next month. The hotel will have a large ballroom measuring 780 square metres and six other meeting rooms. In December, Sheraton New Caledonia Deva Golf Resort & Spa will open to cater to the Australian corporate guests visiting the island nation for business events and meetings. Two hours from Noumea, the hotel will offer striking MICE facilities with 490 square metres of meeting space as well as 180 guest rooms, including 60 bungalows, health club and spa, and business centre. Rewards on the Double offer for meeting planners Starwood has recently launched an Asia Pacific-wide MICE promotion “Rewards on the Double”. Participating hotels include over 200 properties in Australia, China, Indonesia, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Vietnam. Exclusively for members of Starwood Preferred Planner (“SPP”), the “Rewards on the Double” deal features incentives for event planners such as trendy tablets and Double Starpoints®: For an individual group booking whose spend is more than US$18,000, SPP members will receive a mini trendy tablet. For an individual group booking above US$25,000, SPP members will receive a tablet. In addition, for every US$3 spent, SPP members will earn 2 Starpoints® - a double up from the regular ratio of 1 Starpoint® for every US$3 - with no maximum. The “Rewards on the Double” offer is valid for all group events and meeting bookings, including those booked through travel agents. Event bookings must be made by March 31 2013 and held by 30 June 2013 to qualify for this promotion. |
