The Most Influential Hotel Brand Award Ceremony 2012 was held by Meadin.com in cooperation with 126 mainstream media at New Century Grand Hotel Hangzhou on August 27, 2013.

At this award ceremony, Ms. Shang Yu from Baidu Traval gave a speech on Baidu Hotel Data Report: Hotel User Behavior Analysis. She elaborated users’ search habits and search data, such as hotel keywords, hotel prices and consumers’ reviews etc.

"At present more than 90% of netizens in China use Baidu. That is to say, the majority of hotel consumers use Baidu to search for hotel information and make online reservation,” Ms. Shang Yu said, “In 2012, the number of hoteliers using Baidu reached 55 000 000 and Baidu search requests per day on hotels exceeded 120 000 000, 25% of which came from mobile devices.”

Hotel Search Trends

In the aspect of hotel brand search numbers, the economic hotels were higher than high star hotels. For the economic hotels, men accounted for 76%, most of which were between 25 and 35. For the starred hotels, women accounted for 33%, most of which were well-educated between 25 and 30.

Search Regions of Economic Hotels

In addition, whether economic Hotels or high-end hotels, their search presented regional features, but economic Hotels were weaker, except in Central China and Eastern China, 7 days, Home Inn and Hanting were among the top 3 of the search; there was big difference in regions for high-end hotels.

Destination Search

Beijing and Shanghai were among the top destination search cities in China. The search for starred hotels centered on Hong Kong and Macao. In the tourist cities, the search for high-end hotels prevailed and in the first-tier cities, the search for economic hotels was higher.

Compared the hotel search in top 10 fast-growing Chinese domestic travel destinations in the first half of 2012 with the hotel search in the first half of 2013, tourist cities took up top 4 and their growth exceeded 15%. With the popularization of outbound travel, the growth of the search for overseas hotels surpassed that for domestic hotels, especially for the hotels in Maldives and Phuket Island.

Hotel search in mobile devices averaged 1.2 billion every day. The hotel search in PC in 2012 has grown 20% and the hotel search in mobile devices has doubled compared with 2011. Baidu has taken up 30% of mobile device search. In a week, the hotel search in PC in working days was higher than on weekends. The hotel search in PC on weekends fell 25% on average; the hotel search in mobile devices reached a peak on Saturdays. In a day, the hotel search in PC equaled in mobile devices.
