People from the UK and Ireland were among the first to book summer holidays this year, according to the latest data from Tui Travel.

The top destinations were the Balearic islands, Turkey and Greece, while Mexico was the most popular long-haul holiday spot.

Analysis of 13 of the travel group’s source markets shows the average length of holiday is nine days, with the UK & Ireland at 10 days.

On average, the French take the shortest holiday abroad (seven days) while the Dutch take the longest (11 days).

The most popular time for holidaymakers from the UK & Ireland to get away is in August, the same time as Germany.

Tui Travel deputy chief executive Johan Lundgren said: “This survey has given us real insight into the key similarities and differences between our source markets.

“Identifying holiday trends for 2013 helps ensure we really know our customers and can tailor holidays so they get the best possible service and holiday experience from us.”
