Sustainability initiatives go from strength to strength at Accor in Greater China. Hotel group announces energy savings of over US$4 million for 2013. Two years after the launch of PLANET 21, Accor has announced the results of the Group’s sustainable development program carried out by its hotel network across Greater China over the past year. Accor, the world’s leading hotel group, has invested heavily in energy management and monitoring systems. According to data gathered over the past 12 months, Accor’s hotels in the Greater China region have saved over 25.6 million KWH of energy and 232,953 KL of water compared with the previous year. These savings amount to an impressive US$4,189,697 and US$152,756 respectively. If converted to carbon emissions this is a total reduction of 20,062 metric tons of CO2 - the equivalent of taking over 4,000 cars off the roads for an entire year. “Sustainability is at the heart of what we do at Accor, but we would not have been able to achieve such remarkable savings were it not for the enthusiastic cooperation of our partners and guests,” said Paul Richardson, Chief Operating Officer of Accor Greater China. “By working together across Accor’s hotels worldwide, Accor has managed to make significant inroads as part of its efforts to promote sustainability and environmental awareness. These energy savings, totalling over $4 million for 2013 alone, represent Accor’s commitment to fostering environmental responsibility.” PLANET 21 represents Accor’s continued commitment to sustainability, being a better corporate citizen, and making the world a healthier place to live and work. Accor has made environmental sustainability a priority at its 3,600 hotels worldwide, launching programs and initiatives designed to promote sustainability and environmental awareness, including disease prevention training for employees and a ban on endangered seafood on menus. Accor is one of the major players in Greater China actively helping Accor hotels in the Asia Pacific region achieve these ambitious targets. Accor, the world’s leading hotel operator, offers its guests and partners the dual expertise of a hotel operator and brand franchisor (HotelServices) and a hotel owner and investor (HotelInvest) with the objective of ensuring lasting growth and harmonious development for the benefit of the greater number.
