Chinese citizens took 726 million trips during China’s National Day Holiday, or Golden Week - an increase of 9.43% compared to last year. The tourism boom resulted in a national revenue of 599.08 billion yuan (USD 87.05 billion) between October 1 and 7 and an increase of 9.04% year on year, reports Chinese news portal China News. Data released by the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) shows that online shopping, shared homestays and mobile payments continue to be popular during Golden Week. According to the MOC, the transaction volume of some e-commerce platforms increased by more than 20% last week, with the number of orders for some online retail platforms going up by over 50%. Further, sales experienced by the national retail and catering industry hit 1.4 trillion yuan (around USD 203 billion) during the seven-day holiday. Average daily sales during the same period increased by 9.5% compared to 2017.
