Chinese mainland received 139 million inbound visitors in 2017, an increase of 0.8% compared to 2016, according to a report released by China Tourism Academy on Wednesday, June 27.

Travelers from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan led the number of people making trips to mainland China, accounting for 79.09% of mainland China’s total inbound travel.

The largest sources of foreign tourists in 2017 were Myanmar, Vietnam, South Korea, Japan, Russia, the United States, Mongolia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and India.

The destinations chosen by inbound tourists are more diversified than before. Travelers are increasingly choosing Chinese cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Guilin, Kunming and Shenyang to start their personalised tours in China.

In 2017, the inbound tourism revenue reached USD 123.4 billion, up 2.9% year-on-year, with foreign tourists spending USD 69.5 billion, up 4.1% compared to last year.
